Reasons You May be Refused an Adipex Prescription

Refused Adipex Prescription

There are many reasons why your doctor may refuse your adipex prescription, including past medical history.

Though Adipex is a weight loss drug that is commonly prescribed by doctors and physicians across the country to help people to overcome their obesity, this drug was not made for everybody. Indeed, it is highly effective at helping with weight loss, but there are many reasons why a person may be refused an Adipex prescription.

There are many different medications and medical conditions that can conflict with Adipex. Therefore, patients should be very careful to disclose their full medical history to their doctors, including current and past medical conditions and any medications currently being taken or those that have been taken within the last month. This information provides the doctor with the information needed to help the patient to make the appropriate decision regarding the use of Adipex.

For example, if you are taking antidepressants such as SSRIs (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors) or MAO (monoamine oxidase) inhibitors, or if you have taken them within the last month, you will likely be refused an Adipex prescription. SSRIs can cause unpleasant side effects, whereas MAO inhibitors in combination with Adipex can actually cause very serious side effects that can be life threatening. Remember that many antidepressants stay in the body for at least fourteen days or possibly more. Therefore, even if you’ve stopped the use of the drug, a contradiction with Adipex can still occur if it has not fully cleared the system.

Adipex should also not be taken if other diet medications are already being used. Combining Adipex with some weight loss drugs, such as fenfluoramine or dexfenfluramine can result in a deadly condition of the lungs called pulmonary hypertension. Always tell your doctor if you are taking any other kind of medication – including other diet pills – before considering Adipex.

Adipex should also not be taken if you have an allergy or sensitivity to phentermine or stimulants, or if you have any of the following conditions:

  • Glaucoma
  • Diabetes
  • High blood pressure
  • Heart disease
  • Hardening of the arteries known as arteriosclerosis
  • An overactive thyroid
  • A history of alcohol or drug abuse or addiction
  • Are in an agitated state

Another reason why you may be refused an Adipex prescription is if you have any kind of anxiety disorder or you have any kind of seizure disorders including epilepsy. Though these do not eliminate you from candidacy for an Adipex prescription, you will need to discuss them with your doctor to decide whether or not the drug is safe for use and if a different weight loss technique might be a better idea.
